Patriots Day 2017

It. Is. Tiiiiiime. The 2017 Boston Marathon is this Monday, 4/18. Patriots Day aka BOSTONS Holiday. The Marathon is a time for when friends, family, and strangers all get together along the 26.2 mile route to cheer on the runners who have made the commitment to run. Wake up early. Have a few mimosas. Pack the trains early. It’s gonna be a hell of a day.

If you’re not a Bostonian/New Englander, you probably ask yourself, why? Why would thousands of people stand on the sidewalks and watch people run 26.2 miles? Why? Because we’re New Englanders. We get hyped up about everything. College kids come out and drink their faces off and scream louder than a Bruins game 7 playoff game(maybe). The bars are SWAMPED. Your back may start hurting from all the beers your carrying. But in all seriousness, Boston has been doing this for years. I even asked myself this when I was 8 years old at my first Marathon Monday. My family drove all the way into the city from good ol Hanson Ma to see the Marathon. I asked my Dad, “why?”. He responded with, “Because this is what we do. The runners need us.” And damn right Poppa Lyons. Imagine running for that long and having no one there to cheer you on? I cannot imagine the adrenaline rush.

marathon13.jpg

Yes, this is what we do. We stick together as Bostonians. Runners, spectators, all of us. No matter who you are, what your social status is, we just stick together. And this has meant so much since April 15th, 2013. The tragedy known as the Boston Marathon Bombing. Now I don’t want to get too much into the details of what happened. The few things I want to mention is 1: those scumbags are gonna burn in hell and rightfully so. And 2: The goddamn resiliency of this city. Boston is a strong city. We became even stronger after what happened that day.

I was living in the heart of the city during that time and never in life have I seen so much love and togetherness. We prayed, we hugged, we cried, and we remembered. We remembered the ones we lost. We remembered the ones that were severely injured. But we didn’t just remember. We don’t stop there. We did something about it. People helped each other. Joe Andruzzi, Carlos Arrendondo, and Robert Wheeler, just to name a few. They were runners and spectators that helped people get out of a tragic situation. One of my favorite things I heard from that day was that some of the runners KEPT RUNNING to the hospitals where victims were taken to donate blood. That is was this city is all about.

We didn’t get scared of this tragic event. The term “Boston Strong” literally means what it says. It fits perfect for a scrappy, blue collar city like Boston. The next few years were bigger than ever. The crowds got bigger and better. Rain or shine.

Boston Marathon

2013 Boston Marathon

So pretty much, don’t mess with us. If you even have the strength to knock us down, too bad. We’re getting right back up and we’ll put a boot in your ass(that’s the AMERICAN WAYYY)

So go out there, cheer on the runners and enjoy yourself. Grab a beer and grab some friends. Enjoy the fact that you can call yourself a New Englander. And if your not from New England, that’s okay. Call yourself a patriot that day.

And to all the runners out there. God Bless. I praise you for doing what you do. Raising money for whatever cause you are running for, and just having the balls to run 26.2 miles. Good Luck to all of you!

Also, if you want, take a look at this video ESPN did a few years back. They seriously nailed it.

A tradition like any other begins this week. The Masters. The best golf tournament of the Spring. Baseball has begun and the NCAA has dubbed their national champion. These are signs of Spring. Get ready to take a nap and wake up for the third round and crack a few beers with your boys.

The Favorites (per sbr picks)

Dustin Johnson (5-1) The numbero uno. Dustin Johnson has won the last three events in which he has played. He finished 4th at The Masters last year and 6th in 2015. His putting and scrambling have improved tremendously. Johnson is definitely the man to beat this week.

Jordan Spieth (7-1) Spieth owns an incredible Masters record in just three appearances at the event, finishing 2nd-1st-and 2nd last year in his title defense when he came apart at the famous Par 3 12th hole. Despite not looking entirely like the two-time Major winner that he is in all instances this season, he does have a win this season at Pebble Beach back in February.

Rory McIlroy (8-1) The Northern Irishman, currently ranked number two in the world, needs only a Masters victory to complete the career grand slam. McIlroy took the 54-hole lead into Sunday in 2011 before shooting an 80 and finishing 15th. Like Spieth, in Rory’s last three visits, he has three straight Top-10 finishes.

My Dark Horse PickLouis Oosthuizen: This is a sleeper and a half. He lost to Bubba in 2012 in the playoff and has been slowly gaining recognition ever since. With two top 10 finishes in February, Louis is a guy who can make some noise in the first round. Keep an eye on him.

I’ll keep an update as the weekend goes on. Happy Masters Week!

Music Friday

Back at it again with this weeks new music. Like I said before, I’m going to try and put together the best songs of the week and get you ready for the weekend.

As usual, check out my pregame playlist:

Just gonna get right to it. K DOT IS BACK. Did he ever leave? NO

Kendrick dopped “The Heart Part 4” late last night. He reminded us that he is one of the best in the game right now lyrically. Song starts off slow, but then the switch up about 2 minutes in just crushes it. That’s the Kendrick I love. Be sure to bump this all weekend and get ready for the album

Drake dropped more life last Saturday.

The long, long awaited album finally reached the ears of everyone. Pretty sure this was supposed to drop like 6 months ago, but whatever. I love this album, it’s got a bit of everything, but it’s certainly not drakes best work. Definitely check it out and throw a few songs on while your pregaming this weekend. Producer “Murda Beatz” helped out on a few songs on the album. Be on the lookout in 2017 for this young up and coming white kid from Ontario. His beats get you jacked up.

Gang UPPPPP

Another song from the new Fast and Furious franchise. Get ya boys together and blast this shit through the speakers. This makes me want to rob someone, kick someones ass, kick em out the club(shouts out Gronk). The line up on this track is perfect. Wiz kills it as usual.

More Blink!!

Blink came out with this new song over the weekend. I read up that once they finished their tour last year, they said screw it, let’s make more music. Alas, this banger of a song. I love how last summer Blink went back to their old roots and kept that pop punk heavy style. Mark Hoppus came out and stated that they will be making a California Deluxe edition with a shit load of new songs. It’s set to drop in May. Cannot wait.

Iggy Azalea still sucks.

Quit playin games

What does this mean!?!!???!!!? Things have changed but nothing changed?!?!!? WHAT?

It’s literally gotten to the point where athletes enjoy trolling us. Exhibit A. Malcom Butler on a plane using the words change twice in one sentence and sporting black and gold(Steelers?!?!?!)

Every athlete that does this on social media is a troll. First Jimmy, now Butler. Lets not forget the time Isaiah Thomas sent out all those cryptic tweets during the trade deadline. People went NUTS. I think it’s hilarious. I love it. Make us freak out. Give me something to write about. Give me a heart attack.

But this is literally the most vague post I’ve ever seen. Maybe he’s just quoting Drake. Or maybe he’s leaving us.

Damn trolls.

Top Irish Bars in Boston

Well folks, It’s the most wonderful time of the year. St Paddy’s Day! Get ready because this year it falls on a Friday. How awesome is that? Wear your green, throw on a scally cap, and kick some arse at the bars this weekend.

I’ve thrown together a list of some of the best bars in Boston to grab a pint of Guinness and dance your face off to Irish Rover.

Mr Doolleys Tavern-77 Broad St., Boston

Located in downtown Boston outside of Faneuil Hall, Mr Dooleys is a hidden gem. Known for it’s assortment of Irish beers on tap and live music 7 days a week, Mr Dooleys has become one of the best bars in the city to grab a pint. You’ll never know when you could hear a spontaneous fiddle session.

The Black Rose- 160 State St., Boston

The Black Rose is the GOAT. If you’ve ever been here, you know what I’m talking about. With two floors, this bar has plenty of space to fit your St Paddys day needs. Live music every night downstairs, along with music upstairs on Fridays and Saturdays. If you want to go here on St Paddy’s Day, good friggin luck. I stood outside here for almost an hour last year at 2:00 pm. Did I get in? No. But I goddamn wish I did. They have the best Smithwicks in Boston. That’s a damn good beer.

L Street Tavern- 658 E. 8th St., South Boston

Right in the heart of Southie, L Street Tavern is a staple to people from here, kid. L Street has the classic Irish pub vibe with all the classic foods and beers. Crowded with locals, and sometimes yuppies who can’t get into Lincoln or Stats, L Street is a great place to spend your St Paddy’s Day.

McGreevey’s- 911 Boylston Street, Boston

If you want to be at a fun, Irish sports bar, go To McGreevey’s. This is one of my favorite bars in Boston. Alt Rock plays through the speakers as you grub on some phenomenal pub food. Burgers, fries, pizzas..everything here will fill you up. Not to mention it’s owned by the famous Dropkick Murphys. Catch a game here or just catch up with some friends. McGreevey’s is a great spot for a pint.

The Burren- 247 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville

Located in Davis Square, The Burren is the one of the best Irish bar in Boston. It’s been known for it’s tradition tunes for over 20 years. From Irish jigs to bluegrass, to swing and 80s, The Burren is the destination for live music and a cold one.

Solas– 710 Boylston St, Boston

http://www.solasboston.com/

Solas is a classic. If you’re looking for a traditional Irish meal, this is where you want to be. The Reuben Egg Rolls are an absolute classic to get you going. And you can’t forget everyone’s favorite, Shepherd’s Pie. Stewed ground beef, carrots, and mashed red bliss spuds. My mouth is watering as I type this. Solas on lunch break anyone?

Happy St Paddy’s Day kids. From New England to New Brunswick, Galway to Dublin, raise a glass this weekend in celebration.

T MOBILE ARENA PUT ON HOLD

The Nevada venue has reportedly been put on hold for June 10, suggesting it is being reserved while a deal for Mayweather-McGregor is sorted out.

Mayweather over the weekend publicly said that he will come out of retirement just for a bout with McGregor. This is not fake news.

“When I faced Arturo Gatti, I went to his turf,” Mayweather told FightHype. “He was the A side, I was the B side. I beat him, I didn’t cry, I didn’t complain. When I faced Oscar De La Hoya, he was the A side, I was the B side. I didn’t cry, I didn’t complain, I beat him and I became the A side. For Conor McGregor, I’m coming out of retirement, just to fight Conor McGregor.”

“I don’t want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC. Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June. Simple and plain. Let’s fight in June. You’re the B side, I’m the A side.”

After reading those quotes, you’re outta your tree if you don’t think that this is happening.

LET THE MAN SIGN THE PAPERS DANA.

Off to the fighting cathedral of the world:

JIMMY G IS GONE..Wait What?

Jimmy G posted this photo this morning saying goodbye to New England. But as of right now there are no reports of a trade.

Oh now wait a minute…

This is getting fucking ridiculous. It’s 7am and all this news is coming to me now. But you know what? I LOVE it. Keeps you on your toes. (Lol at that convo between Rapoport and Schrager)

So someone hacked Jimmy’s account. Did someone hack his account when he did this too?:

And not to mention, both these posts are still up. “Hacked”. Yeah I don’t know if I believe it.

Yesterday was an insane fucking day for the Pats. Buckle the fuck up. Because it’s only 7am and our hearts are already pounding like we stuffed our face into some snow.

More to come.

It Was All A Dream..

Today marks the 20th anniversary of when rapper Biggie Smalls was shot in LA. If you know hip hop music, and just music in general, you know who Biggie fucking Smalls is.

One of the best rappers to ever live, and in my opinion, the GOAT. His flow was addicting. His ad libs were the greatest. He made a name for himself at a young age. It’s unbelievable that someone who lived to be the age of 24 pretty much changed hip hop. He made hip hop/rap what it is today.

I put together a list of my top 5 Biggie songs. Enjoy:

RIP BIG

No Hard Feelings

Little bit of controversy coming out this week after the Celtics loss on Monday. Isaiah Thomas sat in his locker longer than normal still in full uniform. Clearly upset about the loss. When asked how he felt about the loss, IT said “we need to stop experimenting with who’s on the court”. Basically he’s saying he didn’t like what coach Brad Stevens did with the lineup down the stretch. If you haven’t heard, Celtics blew a double digit lead. Again.

Stevens went on 985 The Sports Hub today to explain that Thomas sent him a long text message apologizing for his comments. “Soon thereafter I got a long text from Isaiah. … When you get interviewed right after a tough loss or even when you get interviewed right after an emotional win, sometimes the emotions speak. And so, I understand there’s frustration, I don’t lose a lot of sleep over it.”

Stevens went on to say that IT is a competitive guy, and that he loves that about him. He said that it’s good that he gets upset over tough losses and basically brushed the comments away. So Stevens doesn’t really care.

BUT This is the second time IT has expressed his feelings after a loss this week. He blatantly blamed Jae Crowder for the loss on Sunday in Phoenix. IT said that Crowder threw the ball in too late. And then went on to say “I’m not saying it’s Jae’s fault, I just thought the ball would’ve came to me sooner.” Dude, you’re basically blaming your teammate. Not a good look.

Look, I love IT. He’s great for this team. But you can’t be going out there after a tough loss and making questionable comments about your teammates and your coaching staff. I get that he’s a competitive guy, but pointing fingers isn’t what this team needs right now. The Celtics are still in a rebuilding stage. And I think Thomas is starting to get annoyed with the fact that he’s not getting much help. That doesn’t give an excuse to start compalinging. This team doesn’t have a lot of leadership. There’s no guy in the lockerroom to help out these young guys get better. This team has no KG. Guys like that are what championship teams be. Thomas in my opinion can be that guy. He is the go to guy right now and the young players on the team should be looking up to him. But right now, with all this bullshit going on, it’s not looking too good.

I’m really hoping the Celtics make some noise in the offseason to help out Thomas and Horford. You can’t with a championship with two big name guys. You need at least three.

Are we making this too much of a big deal? Yeah, probably. But who doesn’t like a little controversy to spark a playoff run.

Go green.

Mayweather Calls Out McGregor..Again

Floyd Mayweather was in London yesterday promoting a fight, and of course, himself. The undefeated boxer called out McGregor, calling him a bitch.

He expressed the fact that he wants to fight him ASAP. The biggest news here is that Floyd said he is going to get a contract set up on Tuesday and send it to Conor. That’s TODAY!

This has been going on for too long. Seriously. McGregor hasn’t fought since November and it’s honestly hurting the UFC. 209 sucked. Let’s face it. With no big names like McGregor, Diaz, Silva, etc., it’s just not worth the buy.

Putting McGregor back in the spotlight is great. Get this fight done. Either way, I honestly think McGregor does not stand a chance. Mayweather has been boxing all his life. Key word is boxing. This would not be an MMA match. It would be a boxing match. Does McGregor have a left hook that would knock out almost anyone? Yeah he does. But boxing and MMA are totally different.

But who cares, I need to see McGregor back in the ring/cage/wwe trampoline/whatever. I don’t care. Guy is one of the best fighters and promoters of all time. I need water bottles flying at press conferences. I need great one liners i.e. “Shut ya fookin mout” and “who da fook is that guy”.

Dana White will let guys like Lesnar go back and forth to the UFC and WWE but he won’t let McGregor fight Mayweather. Think of the money bro.

Someone call Vince.
