Pats Trade for Colts TE Dwayne Allen

The Pats added Dwayne Allen to the roster today, trading away a 4th and a 6th round pick to the Colts. The 27 year old tight end will join Rob Gronkowski and Matt Lengel in New England to bolster that offense around Brady.

Allen played at Clemson and won the Mackey award for the top tight end in college football. He caught passes from Tajh Boyd and was on an offense that had Andre Ellington, Deandre Hopkins, and Sammy Watkins. He killed it that year. 49 catches, 592 yards, fucking 8 touchdowns in 14 games. Consensus All-American.

Indy drafted him after they drafted Coby Fleener, and Allen immediately became a better player. Throughout his first five seasons, he’s been valued at a higher level as a blocker than a pass-catcher, but if you don’t think Tom Brady is gonna turn him into a 60-catch, 600-yard receiving tight end, then you’re an idiot.

McDaniels will line this guy up next to Gronk, opposite Gronk, in the backfield, in the slot, out wide, you name it. When Gronk goes down for the season, Allen’s gonna see a lot of balls come his way. At 6’3” and 265 pounds, he can run. He’s decent. He had 6 touchdowns last year on 406 yards.

Allen’s contract runs three more years and he holds a cap hit around 5.8 mil. This is just another target for God to throw to, and we give up nothing for him. Those picks are for drug addict Jim Irsay and the Colts to screw up now.

His blocking is what’s impressive, and we’ll see what they do with the running back position, but no doubt, this trade will help.
